What started as a simple search for Urdu songs and poems for our nephew’s 2nd birthday turned into a much bigger question:
Why is it so hard to find engaging, high-quality Urdu learning resources for young children?
As parents, aunts, uncles, and caregivers, so many of us want our children to learn Urdu, stay connected to their heritage, and grow up bilingual. We want them to sing the same rhymes we grew up with, to hear the stories our grandparents told us, and to feel at home in a language that carries so much of who we are.
But when we went looking, the resources were often scattered across the internet, outdated, hard to navigate, or simply not made with young children in mind. What should have been a joyful afternoon became hours of searching and still coming up short.
So instead of waiting for someone else to build it… we decided to.
After months of late nights learning, designing, and building, we’re so excited to introduce My Lafz Lab, a completely free platform where families can find Urdu songs, poems, stories, interactive games, and flashcards that make learning Urdu fun for little learners. Everything is crafted to be colourful, playful, and gentle enough for the very youngest of learners, with the warmth of home baked into every corner.
Today is just the beginning. Consider this our “awkward first day of school” phase. We’re still learning, growing, and finding our feet but we’re so glad to have you along for the journey.
We’d much rather build alongside real families than spend months guessing what families need. Every song we add, every story we tell, and every game we design is shaped by the little ones we hope will love them and by parents like you who know exactly what matters.
